The purpose of this proposed work at Downtown Crossing and Park Street Stations is to provide three new accessible transfer elevators and accessible connections within the station, and at Central Square Station, replace the existing outbound platform elevator and install 2 new elevators, while providing a more accessible, code compliant station.

The project scope includes accessibility improvements at two locations.

Downtown Crossing Station, 3 new elevators, associated mechanical equipment, and architectural updates: Macy’s Elevator: Construction and installation of a new 2-stop Macy’s elevator; Winter Street Elevator: Replacement of the existing 2-stop Winter Street elevator with a larger, 3-stop elevator; Park Street Elevator: Construction and installation of a 2-stop Park Street elevator

At Central Square Station, the project will replace existing elevator #860 and elevator hoistway, The work includes the construction of two new elevators, one inbound and one outbound which extend from the Red Line inbound and outbound platform up to grade in Central Square.
Station infrastructure upgrades. Additionally, the inbound escalator will be modernized. Wayfinding in the station will be upgraded, and the existing lighting will be upgraded or replaced. In addition, this scope will include the cleaning and repairing of all surfaces to improve customer experience in the station. Site work includes replacing sidewalks adjacent to the new headhouse.
