Scope of Work:

Work consists of constructing a secure bicycle parking facility at MBTA’s Ashmont station. These facilities are known as “Pedal & Park” (P&Ps) or as “bike cages”. The Ashmont P&P is part of the base contract. Additional facilities at Malden Center Station and Davis Station are each an Add Alternate. All P&Ps are single-story structures, about 25’x50’. Their construction involves excavation, installation of a structural concrete slab and caissons and the erection of a structural steel building frame. The roofs shall be corrugated metal deck. The walls shall be either black chain-link fence or perforated metal panels, depending on the location as specified. The P&Ps will be outfitted with lighting, CCTV cameras, limited drainage system modifications and the connections and coordination necessary to tie the new systems into MBTA’s existing communications and electrical systems. The P&Ps will be furnished with bi-level bicycle racks provided by others for installation by this contractor. Coordination will be required with a gate access control system furnished and installed by others and utilizing a “Bike Charlie Card” for free-of-charge access. This Contract is subject to a financial assistance Contract between the MBTA and the Federal Transit Administration of U.S. Department of Transportation. FTA Participation is 100 percent under the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) of 2009.
