Scope of Work:
Work consists of Contract 2 of a 2-contract phased renovation and expansion of the Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority’s Orient Heights Car Yard and Maintenance Facility. The Work includes, but is not limited to, site roadway and utility work; traction power and track work; westward expansion of the existing Car Maintenance Building to include an extended inspection shop and car wash to accommodate 6-car trains; demolition of the existing Boiler House and removal of buried oil tanks; abatement of oil-contaminated soil; selective demolition of exterior masonry walls; expansion of mechanical, plumbing, electrical, oil and compressed air distribution systems; replacement of existing concrete slab roofing system. New construction includes a reinforced concrete beam and floor slab system supported on drilled caissons, steel frame construction, and insulated precast wall panels. New interior construction includes a new clean room on the ground floor, extension and addition of catwalks and modification to the existing storage room. The Maintenance Facility is located adjacent to the Belle Isle Marsh Reservation in East Boston and all work in this contract is under the jurisdiction of the Massachusetts Wetlands Protection Act and Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection Waterways Regulations (Chapter 91). The project also consists of three add-alternates, including interior painting, additional catwalk and interior traction power upgrades. Sole source procurement of equipment and materials for this Contract is prohibited.
